Wow, you say. You’re going to accuse the good folks over at the Home Box Office, of stealing ideas? Quite simply: YES.
John From Cincinnati is a “surf” type series, where a family deals with two new arrivals, one of which I’m assuming is this guy named John. If only I knew where he came from…hmmm…
Well getting back to plagerism, you see there was a movie made 14 years ago called Airborne. You know, the movie that starred Seth Green and Shane McDermott. Well in that movie, Shane’s character Mitchell, is a surfer. However, he is forced to move to Cincinnati. The plot thickens as there is no where to surf in the Emerald City of Ohio. So he takes up roller blading. Eventually, Mitchell and the rest of his cronies must compete in a city wide roller blade escapade to get the girl and control of the city. Now you can see why so many people were pissed that Unforgiven won the Oscar that year. Shane and the rest of the cast were robbed.![]()
But back to HBO. They have essentially taken this classic movie, and have essentially reversed it. Take a guy from the Midwest and transplant him into a surfing community. A pure case of Opposite Plagiarism. To befoul this coming of age movie is simply criminal. But I guess when you lose a show like Sopranos, you have to try for the next big hit. Maybe HBO told their writers “Take an obscure teen movie from the early 90’s, one with a terrific plot, and then reverse it!” I don’t know if this happened, but it wouldn’t shock me if it did. Shame of you HBO. Shame on you for ruining a great movie and the movie career of a Mr. Shane McDermott.

Spellcheck will help you with “plagiarism”. Got it spelled two different ways here. Blunts your argument…which, I’m assuming and hoping is tongue in cheek. Cause you know the show has nothing to do with the themes you mentioned…right?
Keep trying.
I’m glad to see our site is read by The Proofreaders Association. You’d think spell check would pick that up, but apparently not.
As for my argument, yes I realize that the show has a completely different premise.
However, I do appreciate you pointing that out, and to save you any confusion from my last post, I do not think that talking like an ER doc will impress employees of Petco, unless of course they happen to be in an actual ER.
This was me really expressing my disdain towards Hollywood for blacklisting Shane McDermott.
Any entry that talks about Airborne gets an aplus in my book. How could we ever not watch the aviary scenes without getting tears.
Total rip off! Except the magicy mystically stuff. Halfpipes though!
are you sure you have actually seen a full episode of HBO’s show?
idiot
You are kidding right?
Good thing this show got canceled, cause a lot of people took this article a bit too seriously.
