30AprPick My 80’s Persona!

So at the school that I teach at, we are having an 80’s day.  Now while I could bust out the Members Only Jacket, some jelly bracelets, acid washed jeans or a Winger t-shirt, I think I can pull off being a memorable 80’s TV character.  Why?  Because the children on today should be exposed to great TV culture, just not some freak, who enjoys dressing up as Dee Snyder.

So here are my options:

Skippy From Family Ties

Burt from The Hogan Family

Cameron From Ferris Bueller

Basically, I’m looking for the nerdish guy from the 80s to dress up as.  So I need help people, let me know of any characters I missed or which of the 3 you like!

21AprTVDeuce Movie Review Roundup

For me, there really hasn’t been a lot of television on worth watching.  Sure the Office is back and 30 Rock, outside of a mediocre return episode, hit its stride again this week with another fantastic episode.  However, other than that and watching guys cutting down trees on Axe Men, I have had to look else where for entertainment.  So like many young female high school grads, I headed to Hollywood to have my dreams come true.  However, I didn’t end up like the Poison song “Mama’s Fallen Angel.” However tempting it was, I just could not roll “the dice of my life.”

So here are the movies I’ve watched and what I’ve thought about them:
BECOMING JANE. First of all I can’t really judge this too fairly as I am pretty much deaf in one ear, an there’s a lot of whispering going on in this movie.  I don’t know why a lot of people in the 1800’s felt the need to whisper, but it doesn’t help me out much.  Besides from that, its a total chick flick.  I didn’t go to sleep during it, so I guess that’s good, but it really wasn’t my “cup of tea.”  Overall, I give it a C.

JUNO. So I honestly didn’t know what it was about till I watched it.  I knew there was a lot of Oscar buzz around it, and that I don’t much care for Ellen Page (basing this only on her SNL appearance).  I really liked this movie.  I thought it was pretty honest and a bit hokey at times, but overall, like Little Miss Sunshine, it’s one of those movies that’s hard not to like.  I also have figured out 2 things.
A) Michael Cera is in EVERY new movie
B) Wherever Michael Cera is, Jason Bateman is surely close behind.

Overall it was a terrific film, that although it wasn’t Oscar worthy, I’d give it a strong B+

DAN IN REAL LIFE
Steve Carrell goes serious and stars with Dane Cook in this serious movie.  That’s all you need to know.  It’s cool when one comedian goes serious, but put two in there and this movie is getting flushed quick.  It really should have been entitled “DAN IN REAL LIFE: IF REAL LIFE IS FULL OF HORRIBLY TENSE AND UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS!” I saw what they were trying to do here, but its nothing new in terms of romantic “comedies.”  The only difference is that Drew Barrymore isn’t in this.  Overall a meager C-.

I AM LEGEND
I thought this movie was going to be really cool.  Will Smith alone in New York City hunting stuff down to just stay alive.  However, the plot was terrible, and this coming from the guy that enjoys Full House reruns.  Thee ending was unsatisfying and I felt that somebody owes me some money for making me watch this.  I have no problems giving this movie a solid D.

OLD SCHOOL
While at my friend Dustins, I popped in this classic.  Sure I’ve seen it about a billion times, but its a classic.  This is some of Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughns best work.  If you haven’t seen it, then you must run to blockbuster or to your Netflix cue list and get it because it will not disappoint.  “I think what my friend is trying to say, is that true love is blind.”
Old School gets an A all the way!

So there’s the TVDeuce Movie Review Roundup.  Thoughts?  What’s out there that I need to watch?

18AprHAPPY BELATED B-DAY, TVDEUCE!!!

So I haven’t written in a while, but when I sat down, I realize that “The Deuce” is already one year old! It’s amazing! Seriously, first let me thank those of you, who have read and supported the site (click those ads people, daddy wants a new car!) I really appreciate anyone out there, who enjoys reading my scrambled thoughts.

I thought a good way of celebrating would be taking a “Retrospective” at the year of “The Deuce.” Sit back, enjoy clicking links for The Best and Worst of the Past Year:

FIRST POST
Dancing With The Stars
I still think leading off with Dancing With the Stars Was the way to go, and I still find it funny!

BEST SPINOFF IDEA
THE OFFICE SPINOFF
Creating a show around Bob Vance just seemed natural to me. It was and still is a terrific idea and then lead to our next award.

BEST CELEBRITY INTERVIEW
BOBBY RAY SHAFER
So the guy that actually plays Bob Vance stumbles upon the site and loved the idea. We get to talking and he agrees to do an interview! I actually felt legitimate as a blogger for a brief shining moment! He also sent me a picture in the mail of him, Carrell and the stripper from The Office. An overall great guy. Unlike Melora Hardin (who plays Jan) who didn’t emailed me back and said my site really wasn’t “mainstream” enough for her.

FIRST BIG HIT
FAMILY GUY QUOTES
With the advice of a fellow blogger, Josh from Bricksexplode, I decide to start submitting my articles around to various places to help gain an audience. CollegeHumor picked this one up, and it made my Google Analytics actually have to work for a few days. Plus, it was just a great collection of quotes.

BEST VIDEO
LARRY THE LAPTOP THIEF
A project for school ends up being pure video gold, as I star as UConn’s #1 Laptop thief!

POST THAT SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER
Advice For Freshman
I would put this in my under-appreciated category. I think I had some great stuff in this one, but it never went as main stream as I wanted.

WHEN THE DEUCE GOES POP
Cartoon Names
I finally hit the big time when I had an article about cartoon names land on Pop Candy. I appreciate Whitney posting that, as it lead to tons o hits.

WORST POST
MARK HARMON LEAVING NCIS
Why? Any post with the name “Mark Harmon” should automatically be deleted.

Well that’s a look at the year and a month that has been TVDeuce. Again, big thanks to anyone that actually reads this site, I really do think you’re the best. And keep those comments coming, and don’t forget to link me as Beth did as a friend on Facebook. I’m looking for self-esteem people!
